Connemara Burning is a play written by Xavier Hock and
EITC (Emerald island theatre company).
It puts in scene, Mike O'neil, superintendent and
secret agent
(so secret in fact, that nobody has ever heard about it !) This
superintendent, at the service of the irish secret service have
for mission: protect Connemara, of an estate agency
unscrupulous and wants to get in on National Park
Connemara. In his mission, he will be helped by many
characters such as : miss Pennyless, M (head of irish secret
service), miss Marple (the crazy scientific) and Mr and Mrs
Beamish (farmers).
The difference in this play to another, is that students can
voluntarily participate in the play the purpose of this
participation is to practice the english language differently.
And the public is also asked several times in the play. In the
play, lot of theme are tackled: love because Miss harley and
mike are in love and miss harley and Davidson are also in
love, which causes jealousy among Davidson and Mike.
Or the protection of the environnement because the hero,
Mike O'neil, must stop a power-thirthy internationnal
corporation hell-bent on ruining Connemara National Park.
